ดูก่อนสารีบุตร ในการให้ทานนั้น บุคคลไม่มีหวังสิ่งตอบแทนในทาน แต่ก็ให้ทาน ไม่มีจิตผูกพันในผลแห่งทานแล้วให้ทาน ไม่มุ่งการสั่งสมให้ทาน ไม่ได้ให้ทานด้วยความคิดว่า การให้ทานเป็นการกระทำที่ดี แต่ให้ทานด้วยความคิดว่า บิดามารดา ปู่ ย่า ตา ยาย เคยให้ เคยทำมา เราก็ไม่ควรทำให้เสียประเพณี เขาผู้นั้นให้ทานด้วยอาการอย่างนี้แล้ว เมื่อทำกาลกิริยาตายไป ย่อมเข้าถึงความเป็นสหายแห่งเทวดาในสวรรค์ชั้นยามา
เราจะรู้ได้อย่างไรว่ากฎแห่งกรรมมีจริงหรือไม่
ในพระพุทธศาสนามีหลักการอะไรที่จะพิสูจน์ให้เราเห็นชัดว่า กฎแห่งกรรมมีจริง คือทำดีได้ดีจริง ทำชั่วได้ชั่วจริง และเราจะมีวิธีการพิสูจน์ได้อย่างไรว่า สิ่งนั้นเป็นกรรมที่เราทำเอาไว้ในชาติก่อน
